About Climathon

Climathon is being organised by KSUM in collaboration with EY Global Delivery Services, UNDP, Startup India, Global Shapers Kochi, NASSCOM, TiE Kerala.

The objective of the hackathon is to bring together entrepreneurs, innovators, students, researchers, technologists, and passionate professionals to find solutions to the challenges posed by climate change. Climate Change is the ultimate and existential threat faced by humans and science and research are indicating that the climate crises are accelerating, and this could impact all of us. The Climate change impact will be catastrophic for the global economy throwing millions of people into poverty robbing them of their sustenance. KSUM through the hackathon is aiming to identify entrepreneurs and innovators with cutting edge solutions which could help to minimize the impact of climate change on businesses and communities. KSUM will bring in collaborators and partners from various ecosystems to support the event.

Though the current situations pose a lot of challenges in terms of derailing the environment and human prospects it also provides a linger of hope for entrepreneurs and startups to work with organizations and Governments in helping and guiding them to respond to this crisis and change by innovating and building new solutions that is going to make a sustainable impact.

The hackathon will be open to Entrepreneurs, start-ups, Innovators, Technology professionals, Researchers and Students in India. Participants at the hackathon are required to work in teams consisting of a minimum of 3 to a maximum of 5 members.
How to apply?

Climathon is a team competition, each team shall comprise a maximum of 5 members. It is recommended that participants form teams with members with diverse backgrounds, with at least 2 with a technology background. Participants can be final year engineering students, technology professionals keen to venture out as entrepreneurs or start-ups / mid-size firms who have already established and looking for new opportunities for growth

  • To participate in Climathon each team must register via Climathon website (https://climathon.startupmission.in/)
  • A single team can only register once and multiple registrations will not be allowed.
  • Any incomplete registrations shall be deemed as void.
  • Late registrations will not be entertained. Acknowledgement of receipt of the registration will be sent via email.
  • Interested teams will have to submit their proposals with respect to the problem statements they want to solve.
  • Proposals after submission will be screened by an expert group on the basis of feasibility, sustainability, scale of impact and technical viability
  • Shortlisted teams will be called for a meeting with Industry experts/ Mentors and will be invited for a half day workshop on design thinking
  • Each of the shortlisted teams will have an industry mentor working with them closely for 30 days to convert their proposals to a minimum viable product. The mentor will be an industry veteran/ Entrepreneur / CEO

  • How can we develop technologies which enable Carbon Capture, Sequestration, and Utilization across the ecosystem?
  • How can we enable the policymakers with the technology-enabled tools (Dashboards, alert mechanisms, etc) for decision making in climate change( Across various levels) to disseminate awareness better and improve governance?
  • How might we develop a low-cost, energy-efficient, and scalable warning system to address natural disasters like landslides, floods, wildfires, etc by mitigating the two current important challenges: Accuracy and Lead time?
  • How might we leverage technology (IoT, GIS mapping, crop modeling, usage of drones, etc.) for monitoring & mitigating soil quality issues and performing sustainable agriculture and to monitor soil quality?
Rewards and Recognition
  • The winning teams will receive a grant of INR 5,00,000 lakhs for the successful prototypes in the published problem statements
  • Second runners-up will receive a grant of INR 2,00,000 lakhs for the successful prototypes in the published problem statements
